Part 3 of 3 part series.
What does discipleship look like?
I. IT STARTS WITH GOD’S WORD – Set a foundation on God’s Word, so that they may know God’s heart. How do we pray, worship, serve, love and get along with each other? It is through His word that He tells us.
II Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness.
Psalm 119:9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
Hebrews 4:12 For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the
thoughts and intents of the heart.
There are 6 aspects of the Word that we have to teach those we disciple.
Read it, Hear It, Memorize It, Meditate on It, Study It and Do It.
READ IT
I Timothy 4:13 Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those
things which are written in it; for the time is near.
HEAR IT
Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

MEMORIZE IT
Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
MEDITATE ON IT
Psalm 1:2-3 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.
Joshua 1:8 This book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and
night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it…
STUDY IT
Acts 17:11 These were more fair minded than those in Thessaloniki, in that they received the word with all
readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
DO IT
James 1:22 …be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves
II. TEACH THEM TO PRAY: Enter prayer to seek God’s heart, what are His desires for you. Not for just telling Him
what you want. He is not a genie. But to also find out His heart in the matter.
Jeremiah 33:3 Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do
not know.
Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known to God…
Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and
not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will
listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
I Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will
of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need.
I John 5:14-15 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His
will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the
petitions that we have asked of Him.
III. THE IMPORTANCE OF FELLOWSHIP: Don’t deny the gathering of yourselves together. So that others may
encourage you and help you to grow but also so that you may encourage others and help them to grow.
Once these 3 things are understood, slowly and deeply, walk through the book of Romans. It will establish them in their faith.
Remember Luke 4:18
The Spirit of the Lord is upon (You), because He has anointed (You) to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent (You) to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
I hope this series has helped in understanding a little more about what evangelization looks like and that it encouraged you to be about our Father’s business. We should be getting back from Alberta today and look forward to getting back into fellowship and being a part of the outreach to SE Roanoke. If you have any questions or just want to throw ideas at each other on how to reach our communities, I would love to hear from you.
Your brother in Christ.
